Automatic Voter Registration

My Vote My Voice supports developing and embedding an agreed system of Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) in the UK’s voting system as a matter of priority.
AVR could ensure that those who do not have support to complete forms or are unaware of their right to vote, join the electoral register. This would have a trickle-down effect on awareness of voting rights, with the arrival of polling cards and other materials from local authorities.
Requirements to re-register after relocating one’s address can place additional voting barriers to disabled people, particularly those with learning disabilities and autistic people. Any system of AVR should include the automatic re-registering of people when the local authority is made aware of a person moving into the area.
Any agreed system of AVR would also include an opt-out clause for anyone to make use of at any time, of their own free will.
